The XC90’s baby brother has arrived at Geneva.
This is the brand new XC60, the baby brother of the bigger XC90 and has a big pair of shoes the fill so Volvo can’t afford to get it wrong.
The current XC60 is the bestselling premium mid-size SUV in Europe according to Volvo and considering the success of the current XC90, it has a lot of expectations to live up too. First thing is that it keeps the looks of the XC90, which is an amazing looking SUV and possibly one of the best looking cars on sale today. Volvo seems to be on a roll with the current styling of its range. The ‘Thor hammer’ headlights are a personal favourite design feature of mine.
Inside the interior remains largely untouched from the XC90 with only minor technical updates for the large central touchscreen. The interior is one of the most luxurious this side of £200,000 and the German manufacturers could learn a thing or two from the Swedes.
Naturally as it’s a Volvo, safety is the first priority and the XC60 features a whole heap of tech designed to keep driver and passengers safe and sound. Volvo claim that the new XC60 is one of the safest cars ever made thanks to features like Steer Assist, which helps drivers help avoid obstacles in the road and Pilot Assist which aids the driver to steer, accelerate and brake at speeds of up to 81mph.
Unlike other Volvos the 316bhp turbo and supercharged T6 will not be available in the UK meaning the fastest XC60 will be the 251bhp T5 petrol but the diesel will probably sell best. Expect production to start in April with prices of around £35,000.
